In light of recent events, the team at Democrasoft™ started to notice that many ideas for solutions were beginning to surface in regards to the Gulf oil spill, but no single repository existed where these ideas could be neatly organized and vetted. So we decided to create a place where everyone who has or knows of an idea can contribute it, and the ideas can be evaluated, as well as voted up or down.
On June 22nd, 2010, Democrasoft™ launched StopTheGusher.comto help citizens come together to share ideas for stopping and remediating the Gulf oil spill.
“The stakes are so high, and real progress seems so elusive. If we don't do something, can we just assume that someone else will? Fortunately, we have our Collaborize tool, and we feel a moral imperative to use it on behalf of Americans who are frustrated by the oil spill and want to contribute in some positive way to the situation."
– Richard Lang, CEO of Democrasoft
Make sure to check out the Stop The Gusher Resources section ways to share the best ideas of the site with government officials, British Petroleum, mainstream media outlets and more.
To contribute your idea, go to StopTheGusher.com, and click on “Ask a Question.” Instead of asking a routine question, name your proposed solution and describe it using the Yes/No topic type only. You can also upload a video or a PDF to add more content to your idea. Others can then vote it up or down, lending some consistency to the process.
